Looking At The Advantages Of Implantable Contact Lenses

More and more people are looking at ways to have their eyesight improved. Some will opt for laser surgery, but today just as many are opting for implantable contact lenses. These are miniature contact lenses that are implanted into the eye in order to correct any problems a person has with focusing. So what are the advantages of implantable contact lenses you may be asking? Below we take a look at just a few of these.

But before we do look at the advantages first let us explain a little bit more about the procedure to implant them. What procedure is carried out of course will depend on the severity of the problem with the person's sight. Some people may find that the surgeon will implant an additional lens into the eye because the problem with the focusing isn't that severe. However in the more severe cases then the surgeon will replace the natural crystalline lens of the eye with this type of lens totally.

So just what are the advantages of implantable contact lenses over other kinds of treatment for correcting a person's vision?

Advantage 1 - This form of treatment can be used by people who find that they are not actually suitable for having their vision corrected using LASIK surgery or other kinds of laser refractive surgery.

Advantage 2 - This form of treatment is ideal for those people where they suffer from severe short sightedness or far sightedness. So this in turn means that in the future they no longer have to rely on glasses or traditional contact lenses.

Advantage 3 - Although this is a relatively new way of helping to correct people's vision has already proven to be very effective and very safe. In most people who have had undergone the procedure to have implantable contact lenses inserted they have seen their vision restored to 20/40 or better.

Advantage 4 - Yes there are some risks involved with this form of surgery, but it is the same with any surgical procedure. How the risk to the person is far less and the occurrence of any adverse side effects are reduced compared to LASIK eye surgery. The reason for this is that in no way is the cornea of the eye changed.

Advantage 5 - Of all the advantages of implantable contact lenses the biggest one is that you will be able to enjoy a wider selection of activities including sports like snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming. This is down to the fact that at no time will you ever need to wear traditional contact lenses or glasses when doing these activities.

In this article we have taken a look at some of the advantages of implantable contact lenses. But one thing that certainly has a lot of people looking closely at having this procedure done is the cost. The initial cost of the procedure is high, but over the long term you could end up saving quite a lot of money. As there will be no need for you having to replace glass or contact lenses in the future.

As you can see, there are a number of advantages to selecting Implantable Contact Lenses over conventional contact lenses. If you are having sight problems, there are also other options available from companies like Advanced Vision Care who offer laser eye surgery in London that can help many people.

Why Get A Soft Glasses Case

If you have worn glasses since you were a very young then you are not alone. When people are having trouble seeing out of their glasses they run straight to the optometrist to find out what is going on. When they are told that the prescription is fine, but it is scratches on the lenses that is affecting their vision, they might feel foolish. Especially if the optometrist couldn't buff out the scratches. That is why the use of a soft glasses case is recommended.

Most people never listened, when they were younger, about how important it is to protect the glasses. The problem now is costing money. That money could have spent on something else. Now they have to get another pair of glasses to replace the scratched ones.

A lot of people usually only wear my sunglasses in the car. There are times that they will either wear them or carry them from the car. That is when having the case can come in handy.

The reason that most people give about the hard case is of how bulky it is. The soft case lets people keep their glasses in the pocket without the odd bulge. Now the glasses are not bumping against the keys and coins and getting scratched up.

Purchase three cases so that there is one at each stop. One case for the office and one for the car. The bedroom nightstand is also a great place for one.

Having to buy another pair of glasses can be costly. Correcting the problem and not forgetting to use a soft glasses case will prevent this mistake in the future. Instead of using a shirt to clean the glasses try to get some lens cleaner. That might be a harder habit to break.

A soft glasses case is ideal to prevent scratches on glasses. More info now in our exclusive glasses case overview.

LASIK Surgery Revealed

LASIK is the most popular type of eye surgery today. It is at the same time fast, efficient and gentle. And the complications of are rare. For most people a LASIK surgery is a good solution to improve their sight in the cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.

The PRK laser surgery has been further developed to the new LASIK form. In both surgeries the outer cornea layer is removed, so the laser can operate on the tissue. But while the PRK method is scraping the out layer of, the LASIK operation cut just a flap in the cornea that can be bent. After the surgery the flap can be put back in place

The operation only takes a few minutes. The eyes will be anaesthetized, and most people will not feel anything. The flap is cut in the cornea and the laser surgery will be made.

The actual laser treatment takes between 30 seconds and two minutes. A special laser called an Excimer laser will be used. It is specifically designed to operate in the eye's sensitive tissues. Finally the corneal flap is put back again.

You can go home right after the operation. Because the eyes may sting a little bit, it is recommended to rest for the rest of the day; and maybe also take a nap.

For most people the sight will have improved right after the operation. It will then stabilize over the next weeks.

The eyes can feel a little dry after the operation. Dripping them with salt water might help.

All studies indicate that a permanent sight improvement is provided by the LASIK operation. And previous bad eyesight will not return again. But a possible, natural change of sight in the future is not possible to prevent by the operation. So the surgery should not be done before the sight is stable.

The age-related long-sightedness that all people will experience can also not be prevented by a LASIK operation.
